I will probably rust out before my 528, but I still have low level neurotic anxiety on this topic. I say, for all I need and care about in a car, the e12 is it. They run, handle, visibility rivals that of a convertible, and with this board, a tool box and an attitude, "My mechanic" is me.
What will eventually make the secret irrelevant: 25 years already, and our cars never really did appear on any radar screens. There will be no aftermarket, only junk yards and time consuming searches for insignificant parts. That or ways to substitute.
I just had to buy a complete tail light assembly, as the separate parts are NLA. I was told less than 100 of those are left. True or not, I figure what we save in money is going to get spent in time,...sooner than I'd like.
Ain't I funny? No world calamities in my projected future, and I'm assuming all of us excellent health forever.
