: The stock 2.8L engine produced 169 horsepower according to BMW. Although I've never tried it, it seems to me that 30 more horsepower is in your reach without a turbo. Here's an untried suggestion.
: Get some pistons for a BMW 2800; the stock compression ratio was 9.5:1. (The 528i compression ratio is 8.2:1.) A Shrick 282 cam would be my choice, along with ported Bavaria exhaust manifolds and a free flowing exhaust. An aftermarket fuel injection system to allow the restrictive air-flow meter to be discarded. The ones from SDS seem to be cost-effective. One of the guys here installed one and seems to be happy with it.
Hi Troy,
I think you're talking about me. Yes I did install the SDS unit. And yes I'm happy with it.
The only problems I've had with the system is difficulty starting the car when temps fall below
45 deg F. This is partially due to the SDS not using the cold start injector (and unfortunately
I removed it from the system). When I have the time I will reinstall the stock air bypass and CS Injector.
But seeing temps right now are varying from 60 to 105+ F I haven't spent much time on it.
BTW I figured I gained about 10% HP and torque improvement. SO this injection system alone might get
you close to that 200hp figure if you engine is in excellent shape.
Regards,
Frank
