In theory that damage is possible but so far I haven't heard of it actually occuring. As long as the car is driven with some caution all should be well.
Chassis set ups are difficult things to do. When BMW cured the excessive oversteer of the early US 320i they removed the rear anti roll bar altogether and stiffened the front springs.
Due to the great possible camber change in the e12s rear trailing arms it's possible , if the car has much more power than standard , to get a pendulum effect when the driver initially loses the rear end. A situation of grip , slip ,etc.
Anything that limits the movement of the rear suspension and reduces the camber change will delay the onset of the oversteer , without making understeer excessive.That said finding the optimal is difficult and it depends on the particular tyre size , engine power etc of the car at hand.
