Having just gone through this process with mixed results, I'd try and find out what you have on the car first before you go forward. Since the rears are relatively easy, take them off and determine what kind of spring perch is on there (straight or stepped) and which groove the perch sits on (higher or lower). Different combinations can lower/raise the rear about an inch. Measure the height of the spring and report back to the board.
The front is much harder, but if you can also remove the spring and measure it, then you'll know what you've got. My stock springs were about 13 1/4 inches high in front. Maybe you can see a BMW part number, too.
With my stock springs and Bilstein HDs, I have about 1 1/2 inch gap between tire and fender in front and about 1/2 inch gap in rear. Car sits well, I don't plan to go any lower.
