One other advantage or disadvantage of the 3210cc motor is the single row timing chain. Advantage(maybe minimal) is that it is a bit quieter and there should theoretically be less friction, disadvantage less strength. I had a 85' 735i 5spd and in comparison to my 78' 530 with the 3210cc motor I found I could get 500-700 more usable rpm's. But maybe something was wrong with my E23...I dunno...I took the time to go thru everything and build the 3210cc motor from the short block up in a class I took at DeAnza college in Cupertino so maybe that made a difference. 3.5's are pretty trick motors if you cam them. I'm just now catching up on the board postings from my ATT attack.
