I live in British Columbia and drive a 77 530i. I've been running the car on 87 octane for over a year with no problems. I've put about 50-60,000 km's on since I got it a year or so ago. I read a report by a gasoline expert who says that 90% of the cars on the raod today will run perfectly fine with regular gas, only those with ultra high cr's requiring hi-test.
