I have asked similar questions about my 530i in the past. From the responses I have received, it is normal for these cars. When i first start it up, it revs at about 1200-1400 rpm and then as the engine warms up, the rpms decrease to around 800-900 rpm. On really hot days or when the engine is running hot, it idles at about 500rpm. When this happens, I usually use the gas pedal and keep the rpm's in the 900 rpm range manually.
