I have a 76 530I with the old style valve (#...018). I was able to clean it with carburetor cleaner. You have to apply heat to it to expand the spring and close the door while the solvent is inside. Kind of tricky but it worked. It has been working fine so far this winter season. Before I cleaned it cold idle was 2000 and warm idle was 1400. Now 1500 - 1600 on cold idle and 1050 warm.
