I have a 76 530i that is also auto. The high revs on the freeway are because the auto only has 3 speeds. When I test drove mine on the freeway it felt wierd too (comeing from a honda 5spd) But after loging lots of freeway miles, I can say I sorta like it. if its in good shape, buy the car. the tranny suits the motor like a glove. picture doing 70mph on the freeway when you spot the honda in your rearview. as he goes to pass you, you mash the throtle, no downshift, just torque. right in the motors powerband. bye bye honda......
