Well.... there are very few cars made today that are really all American cars. Most new auto parts come from either Mexico or Canada. Much of the engineering for Ford is done by the Japanese (Mazda) connection. Even Chrysler is owned by Damiler now and it shows in their new way of thinking... Even Chevy has some roots with Isuzu.
As for BMW?? Sure I like them. They are still one of the premier automakers out of Europe. I own 6 bimmers now. All of which I'd consider pretty reliable (yeh even the B7 is now).I ordered a new mini cooper S. Hopefully get it by 2003?
As for buying a new US car?? Not me. They still have terrible cheap styling & poor reliablity. Did I mention my 95' Dodge Ram pickup has 100K on it and makes more clunking and grinding noises than my old 59' Chevy pickup? Also my parents new Ford died after less than 2K miles (bad tdc sensor??) had to be towed to the dealer and repaired... not very reassuring if you ask me.
As for getting a 86' 325... wrong get a 87' 325is you'll be much happier! More power (170hp) nice sports suspension and still gets 24mpg avg. Hard to beat for a $4-5K car.
Or get yourself an 79-81' E12 528i. Very reliable,4 doors and pretty damn quick too. Puts most US built cars of the same era to shame.
