What I was told by the guy at the local foreign auto place (who highly recomended them over Bosch) ..he said that since the wires snap so far down on to the threaded tip of the spark plug that there is a lot less of a gap for the spark to have to jump. The Bosch wires on my 2002 seem to snap on to the top two threads of the spark plug and just kind of flop there. Where as these STI's kind of ratchet all the way down the thread on the plug for a real snug fit.
The wires all come pre-harnessed by lenghth and at the distributor end the wires are tagged with numbers 1-6. The plug end of the wire set looks a lot like the reddish Bosch wires but are more of a brown in color. One thing different about these plug ends is that each one had a rubber seal around the female end which snugs right up keping moisture out ..unlike the Bosch.
I did a search on STI ignition wires and found nothing. I may try another search engine though. I'll let the board know what I find.
The place where I picked my set up from is called Northen Foreign Auto. (603-889-8144) They had to order them for me but they usually carry them in stock. I'm sure if you called and told them you were from out of state they'd more than likely reveal their sources to you. They may even tell you more about the wires than I can.
They cost me 79 bucks which is 10 bucks more than what Bavarian Autosport sells them for. The wires that I just pulled off came from Bavarian before I owned the car. Maybe it's because these STI's are new on the car but I'd swear I added at least 3 to 4 horsepower with the change.
So there you have it. If I find anything else out about them I'll let you know. Thanks for the bandwidth.
