1977 was the last year the 2.8 litre 5 series was available with carb. Yes the i on the 528i badge does stand for injection. Fuel injection , if functioning correctly , gives easier driveability and day to day use than any carb. i.e. easier starting , smoother acceleration , better economy , the ability to use a/c right after the car has been started etc.
