My way of doing it is to take the AFM off the air cleaner mount and stand it upright so I can reach the bottom when it's in the car.

Leave the wire harness connected to the AFM.
Disconnect the O2 connection (green wire at the rear end of the right inner fender) and connect digital voltmeter to the O2 sensor lead (set DC volts, low scale). My principle here is to get the mixture set with the L-Jet running open loop.
Start the engine and warm it up.
Rev the engine to 3000, and use the tooth wheel on the bottom of the AFM to adjust the spring tension to get .47V from the O2 sensor.
Slow the engine to idle.
Adjust the bypass screw to get .47V at idle.
Shut off the engine and put everything back together.

If you have an exhaust gas analyzer, use that instead of the multimeter to set the mixture, but I'd still recommend setting it with the O2 sensor disconnected.
And if you have a car like mine, the O2 sensor output will wander around. I just make it wander around .47V.
