Contrary to some past posters, I think E12 have a better brake system.
One of my instructors is a 533i owner and he was amazed at the brake on my 528i (rebuilt the calipers in the last 2 years).
Note they must have thought Ate 4 piston calipers (ABS version of the E12 castings) were premium; they still used them on E28 M5, using cheaper floating calipers on all other E28's.
