As others have pointed out, the E12 hood doesn't fly up and break the winshield when the latch fails. I had some trouble with the hood latch a few years ago. Until I figured out how to adjust it, the hood would pop up about once a month. I really came to appreciate the design.

And, I think most work is done toward the middle and rear of the engine compartment. I almost never do any work at the front. I pulled the radiator in 1998, I think, and haven't really been up there since.

BTW, if you disconnect the two hinged arms from the inner fender, you can open the hood much wider for easy access to the radiator.
