: The same day that I got a temporary operating permit so I can get the Bimmer inspected and registered, the hood release cable broke. The hood is closed and I need to open it. Chilton's and Haynes are not helpful on this one. I've got the Mobile Traditions Cd so will check that out but would really appreciate if anyone has been through this and how they dealt with it. Thanks for your time.
Michael,
Not exactly have experienced your situation, but I had pulled the cable from the 81 parts car and shot the hood too much to the point it locked on me. I removed the latch/locking mechanism from the front. As you may recall the grille on this car had been removed. So... you need to remove the front grille, then if the mechanism permits you to stick a screw driver or something to release it, great! If not, you have to remove the whole thing, there are 2 10mm bolts there, pay close attention how the assembly is mounted.
Once you open it &/or remove it, I have your replacement with the boot on the hood. $10 plus, $3.70 shipping.
