Hey guys,
I wanted to get advice from those of you who may have done this. I have my '81 528i for sale, but as interest has been lackluster, there's a chance I'll keep the car. If I do, then the next step is the 3.5l swap. Rather than go find parts piece by piece, I'm wondering about the possibility of getting a euro 635csi parts car (which has the 3.5l I want, c/r tranny, and 3.07 LSD rear end) and cannabalizing it. I've seen them around, and as they suffer from rust as our E12's do, there seem to be parts cars around.
Now my question is, can I make money off of parting the car of the rest of the stuff to E24 people to make it worthwhile to do this? I have seen many do this sort of thing, expecially in Grassroots Motorsports $200x challenges and sometimes make more on the parts than they paid for the car. Is this a realistic thing to hope for? When there is nothing left on the car of any value, how can I get rid of the hulk? Will places pick it up and haul it away? I don't want to get stuck with it or the wife would kill me.
I did here of a 635csi in bad shape a few months ago for $1500, but couldn't get it at the time. But that leads me to believe that for that kind of money I could get the drivetrain I want for cheaper than I'd spend to get it piece by piece, and hopefully have a whole car with some other parts to sell on ebay. Any advice on this is welcome.

Thanks,
Adam Wilson
