My car is also a 1976 e12 with stock suspension and I find this particular era ( 1975 & 1976 ) on the soft side and with a comfortable ride.
I have found later cars , and this includes 3 , 6 and 7 series , to have a firmer ride and less body roll or lean. I actually prefer the softer feel of my model when it comes to long trips.
