Is an oil pressure gauge worth it?

Sine my 81 528i is still original I am worried that the oil pump might decide to go and there goes my engine. Does anyone have oil presure gauges installed on their cars? or do you not recomend doing this.

Also if so, what brands / so one do you recomend. I woudnt want to put junk and have a hose break on me.
