test for spark

Hey folks!

Gerhard won't start--cranks really good but just won't go.

I suspect ignition and want to test for spark from the plug wire against the block. I have never done this before. Any advice on how to prop the wire boot someplace safe and steady to watch for spark?

For obvious reasons, I don't want to be holding the wire/boot.
