: : I have a 75 e12 with a cracked heater tank. The car does not heat well at all. Would the crack in the tank cause the system not to fully bleed and fill the heater core portion resulting in squat for heat coming out? Are the heating systems noted for being lacking(doubt this, but I'm in New Hampshire and freezing my ass off wondering) Thank you for your advice, Happy Holidays!

: Guil,
: When you say that you have a cracked heater tank are you refering to the plastic overflow tank that sits above the master cylinder? When you say that the car doesn't heat well that could mean that you have a thermostat stuck open or lack of coolant mixture.Another scenario is if you have a slow leak in where the cooling system never has a chance to build up pressure, which I think is what you're refering to.If the coolant gets low enough in the cooling system, the engine will run on the hot side(if not overheat),and the interior blower fan will start to blow cooler and cooler air because there's not enough coolant in the system to make it to the heater core(kind of like blowing air through an empty rad).If you can visually see coolant leaking, I almost guarantee you that by sealing that you will have heat again.Of course check the obvious:that the system is topped up properly then bleeded. Now if you cannot see coolant leaking and are assuming that it is,it could be entering the combustion process which is NOT GOOD!Hope this is not the case!Good luck!

Hi Eugene,
Yes, there is a small crack below the filler on the plastic overflow tank. Thank you again.
