: I just can't seem to decide which outfit to wear. Oh woe is me! Is it laquer? Or is it enamel? Hmm... Let's see what the court advisors and gurus think!!
: How about white on '77 530i? That sounds like it will go well with Brie and Sourdough.
I can't say this about all areas in the country but where I live laquer is getting very hard to find. Many paint
supply shops don't sell it anylonger. I guess it might make sense to use laquer on an old classic vehicle that was
originally painted with it (for originallity sake) but for day to day use, it simply isn't as durable as the later paint
systems. BMW's where originally painted with an enamel based paint system.
So I'd go with a quality base coat/clear coast system. DuPont/PPS make some truly excellent paint systems. I reallly like the
PPG epoxy primer/sealer (DP 460 I think, it is tough! and helps stops rust too). I've used DuPont Centari (excellent chip resistance
but it is being superceded by Cronar I believe).
You could also use a polyurathane --very tough but more expensive. I really like Imron by DuPont --but it is expensive AND
hazardous to use without the proper paint ventilation!
The colour white is nice on a 530.
