A couple years back, I had heard many E28'ers (remember, you E12 guys aren't the only ones who have to contend with rust! heh heh) raving about the POR-15 line of products, so I finally got some to rustproof the floorboards of my '89 Wrangler. I've tried lots of so-called "rust inhibitors", etc, but this is the only product which I've ever seen actually work. It's sandable (don't get it on anything..including your skin...you don't want it on for a long time!), you can putty over it and it's paintable, too. The only thing is if what you paint with the rustproofer product sees visible light, you need to topcoat it with something, otherwise in time the color fades to a lovely purple (yes, you heard it here first...don't ask how I know).

Just my $.02 -- no affiliation.
