: I have started the black out the chrome trim around the windows of my 81 e-12. So far I have gone slow and been super careful about blemishes, and it is looking really cool...I am using duplicolor semi-flat trim paint, and with many thin coats looks like a pro did it.... Anyone else do this...do you like the way it looks when done? My car is graphit grey so it kinda blends in anyway...
Can I give an Opinion here? Well, I'm gonna anyway... 8^)
Blacking out the chrome gives the car a "Plastic 90's look" OK, so beat me now.... The car is a classic - Why do you want to take away from that look? (I've seen this done on an e9 coupe... ARGH!!)
But in truth, do what you like, and what you think looks best. You are driving a car that will never have a really strong classic status, and it really won't affect the retail value so go for it! I won't laugh. I promise. It's your baby. Do what you like, and screw the purists (like me). Just make sure that you can beat me in an Auto-x or I will laugh at you. hehehehe
If you really want to make it look good, (I'm not joking here) sink the bumpers in, or buy Euro Bumpers. Those Big-ass federal bumpers take away from the lines of the car. But before you go to all of that trouble, upgrade your engine compartment. If you Look modern, drive modern. Remember Adam, "The Proof of the pudding is under the Crust!!!!"
