Actually BMW uses resistor connectors, not wires. This means they seem to last a lot longer since you don't have this graphite impreginated fiberglass or the like for a conductor. But without resistors somewhere in there you will never have a radio that is listenable, may even affect others, but no effect on the FI or carbs.
