Extensions and wobble heads at bellhousing

It is possible to get a box wrench on the 17MM head nuts that correspond to the starter bolts. It just takes the correct wrench and hours of patience plus removing all of the heater hoses. Try the sears "master" box wrenches, they are thinner.

If you already have the tranny out, you can get at all of the bellhousing bolts with a 18" extension and "wobble head" sockets. As opposed to a separate universal, the wobble heads have the universal integral with the socket. They are easier to aim in remote places and can take a lot more torgue. They are available from sears. You will need 13mm and 17mm. They are a good investment because you will need them to bolt the bellhousing back in place unless you are going the 5.7 liter route.

If the goal is to remove the engine, and you have generous overhead clearance, you can pull the engine with the bellhousing attached.
