I just took the cam cover off in preparation for a valve adjustment tomorrow. I got the timing marks lined up on crank and dist to go ahead with No. 1 cyl.
I just happened to glance at the cam chain / grear, and it just looked wrong. Looked up in Haynes. No picture, and I'm freaking out, so no time to read a bunch of text. Did a Google search on The Board, and found Peter's picture on cam timing marks dated July 29, 2002. I took this outside to compare with what I have.

My cam is exactly one tooth off. The cam gear bolt in the picture is down and to the left. ONE TOOTH.

Now. I am calm again, so what does this mean? Cam to retarded? My fuel economy has been 13-14 mpg around town. How do I correct this without tearing the front of the engine down?

Thanks a bunch,
Chris Hollis
