If it's any consolation, in my opinion, having been thru E3's, E12's and E28's, those bolts are the easiest to get to in the E12. As others have said, U-joints and extentions are the key. Sometimes long extentions, like three feet worth makes it easier. Sometimes dropping the crossmember to change the angle, or going the other way and jacking it up a little bit. Yeah, it's a pain, but definitely doable without anything special.
