Thanks for the answer. With the timing marks lined up perfectly, the sprocket bolt that is supposed to line up with the tab on the head is about 1 bolt width past the tab. It seems like a small amount, but I wasn't sure. I too can't get a straight answer as to how far it would have to be off in order to warrant the cost of the adjustable sprocket. I am pretty sure the timing on this motor is too far retarded, now I just need to figure out how to correct it.

I am wondering how far out it would have to be to affect the way the motor runs. I think I might get the sprocket anyway and time it straight up like the book says and hope for the best. Then at least I will have completely eliminated that possiblity. Everything else on the motor and fuel injection is new, except the computer. I just want the car to run right. I have never had something kick my a#* like this before!!!!!
