I came up with the offset for 5 mil removal being
around 0.1 deg. It seems too small to me, but nobody
on the board has yet to say anything either way.
When you say "time it like the book", I think you
are refering to ign timing. This is independent of
the valve train timing, which is set by the gear.
Once you set the chain on the gear, you set the
valve train timing.
