Yeah, that is what I was referring to, the valve train timing. There is a picture in the book that shows how you line up the bolt on the sprocket with the tab that is cast in the head with the sprocket dowel at about the 7 o'clock position. I set it as close to that as I could, but it still seems like it is about 1/2 tooth off and I am assuming this is due to the milling of the head. I even pulled the sprocket back off and put it on 1 tooth advanced to see what it would do, but it wouldn't run well like that either.
I also set the ignition timing as it states in the book as well.
I have no idea how much the machinist removed from the head as my dad picked up the head and he can't remember if the guy told him or not. That was over 2 years ago when he picked up the head. The machinist is an all-around machinist guy and doesn't specialize in BMW's, so maybe that was a problem. Maybe he took way too much off of the head to true it up. I don't know, but I still can't get this thing to run right. Misses at idle, slight miss in upper RPM, idles rough, no power at all, low manifold vacuum etc.
