Yeah, ours doesn't quite line up either when you try
to set the gear to stock spec.
Moving the gear a whole tooth is way too much.
I counted the teeth on the gear - 36. So moving
1 tooth is 10 deg. That's too much.
The only symptom I have that you listed is a slight
miss at idle; maybe your head was milled more. I
also expect a little bit more on the mileage.
Our machinist stamped the amount removed when we had
it done, but it could be hard to find with the
head in the car.
Also, the BMW manual will tell you if you had >12 mils
removed, you should use a thicker head gasket to
help correct the compression.
