Had the same identical problem. Issue is that a "new" used radiator still has poor heating properties: Options:

(A) Purchase new. Expensive
(B)Purchase used or use existing e12 rad and have it rebuilt by radiator shop. Cost ~ $69.00
(C) Purchase used e28 rad and have it rebuild. Cost ~$69.00.

I went with option (b)because my car already had an e28 rad installed. Now car runs nice and cool even during the hottest, nastiest stop & go driving imaginable, and thats with 209K on the engine.
