Today I got in touch with Gene, the Fellow Fiver who bouth the lambda system from parts car#1 (81-528i). He drove from Arizona to San Diego to visit some family, and I asked him is he had driven his 530. I knew he was almost done with the conversion, and he said he did.
My questions to him were: Did you feel any improvement? In gas consumption/performance? He replied he didn't feel much of a gain in gas mileage, he did about the same 17 mpg. However, he did notice gain in "power", therefore I will think "performance". He's still fine tunning the timing, but He is pleased with the outcome... "definitely an improvement/upgrade", he said.
I'm posting this note for two reasons: a)because I'm glad things turned out postive. That's proves I'm not ripping off anybody (Can't beat that deal), b) to motivate other 530 owners to move pursue such upgrade. Is cheaper than SDS and Crane's and pertronix. We'd like to salvage all E12's, unfortunately that's impossible. Nonetheless, some folks can benefit from those L-jets available from 528's saying good bye.
QUESTION: What is the resulting model from this conversion??? It can't be a 538 cause that refers to displacement....
What about a 530i-L? just curiuos... I know there's no such thing, but wanna know what ya'll say?
