if you can give us the numbers on the strut insert housing we can probably tell you what the strut insert is for. why aren't you using the strut housing nut for the old strut (or was it the original with the small hole)? is it that the diameter of the new nut is too large for the strut housing? i probably have both and can measure the e12 and e28 strut housing widths if that would be a help.
