We had a major thread on brakes a year or so ago, lots of "what ifs"
Some BMW drivers look for bigger better brakes, or complain of warped rotors. This largely comes from drivers of later cars with single-piston, sliding calipers. The brakes on our early cars are really better--fixed caliper, four or two pistons each.
Here's how well they work--My son and I shared the car at a drivers' school weekend, in alternate run groups. We just hot seated in the staging area. The car barely stopped--cooling down was out of the question. And the brakes stopped us just fine all weekend long. There was plenty of pad material remaining (Metalmasters). The only service to the brakes was fresh brake fluid and pads and braided steel brake lines. And the same set of stock rotors has been on since I got the car ten years ago--through several track days, seasons of autocross, and daily driver -- never warped, though I got them hot enough to blue the surface at one drivers school. Yeah they're worn down to minimums now, and will get replaced before the next big excursion. But I'll get stock parts again.
These are great brakes. Spend your performance bucks someplace else.
