slightly OT, compressor for the garage, opinions?

Does anyone have a compressor for their garage? If so, what kind and what are the specs? Assume that you are talking to someone who has no idea of what specs on a compressor mean, i.e. what is good, what is needless, etc.

A quiet compressor would be nice, but noise isn't that much of an issue. It would be used for mostly impact tools working on BMW's but maybe the odd household job if it can handle that too (i.e. pressure washer, nail gun, etc).

Give me an idea on costs, brands, etc too.
