I too have had my sights set on the 1 Lap of America. In fact I purchased my E12 for that reason alone. I was very pleased to see someone else had the same idea. I have often thought of posting a message to see if we could get some interest by other E12 owners. Wouldn't it be neat to see about dozen E12's competing?
Anyway, I have done some checking and found we would run in the "Classic Foreign" class. There has not been many cars in this class but if I'm not mistaken 1999 first place was won by an older BMW.
I picked the E12 for several reasons. My past experience with this car was that they are very reliable and could hold their one on the track with little or no modification. I too was considering upping the HP but reality has me now focusing on shocks, cross drilled rotors, decent exhaust and 16" tire package from the Tire Rack. I have not been able to locate any sway bars or sport springs for this chassis. Finally, the E12 is very comfortable and in 1 Lap, there is a lot of over the road driving.
