: Thanks for your general comments, Luis. Now, specifically speaking:

: Do the closer ratios of the 5 speed provide a significant difference in quickness?
Not really
: How similar are the ratios of 4th gear in the 262 and the 265? Troy listed a difference in rpm @ 80mph of ~700 between 4th and 5th for a 5 speed, if I read his post correctly. Could I expect the same difference between top gears in the two transmissions?
Very similar... sorry, I'm at work and don't have the reference of gear ratios from Haynes. The variance, from what I recall, is in the middle gears (2nt to 3rd, I think). Nonetheless, I will think if you find a CR (Close Ratio) 265 then you may experience significant improvement.

In my experience with 2nd class German engineering (just kidding) the beefing is in the first two gears. That's how they make VW to drag race, which is not seen/obtained on the 265.

I don't recall anyone posting ratios for the CR 265... Anybody has such info???

If you really want to fly (well that's exagerated, but feel a real difference, then you need both a CR-265 and an LSD from a 80/81 Six series. But.... then you may as well buy the whole car.
