Yes, there was a 528i in 1982-1988. It was an E28 fitted with a Motronic 2.8L M30 six. However, it was never imported into the United States by BMW NA.
In my travels, I have seen two of these Euro models. So, perhaps it's a 528e or maybe it's a 528i from Europe.
