A mixed bag for sure. I just bought an 85 535i w/ 5-speed manual and I already had a 77 530i. Both cars are pretty well used. The e-28 is in better overall condition at this point. I would hate to get rid of either one. That said, prepare for higher gas consumption, more wind noise, and most likely, a bit o' mechanicking. The e-12 has much simpler electronics and more "charector". Both handle great and ride great. If I were you, I'd put a five speed in your 535 and then go in search of an e-12. Would recommend our beautiful San Juaquin Valley as rust free cars are the norm and noone seems to know what these cars really are. good luck.
