Ryan,
You can use your auto driveshaft on the 265 5 speed tranny. I have one in my daily driver (3.5l & CR 5 speed). It is
about 3/8" shorter that the "correct" driveshaft but it will work (just a little more of the two piece spline showing).
I believe you will still need to get the appropriate 5 speed tranny lower crossmember.
As for your engine? US 3.5L (motronic?) or euro 3.5 (l-jet?). You should be able to bolt a motronic 82' 733i bellhousing
up to the 81 and older 265 5 speed tranny to make it work with your updated fuel system.
