are real oil consumers on these cars. Particularly if you used the OEM valve guide seals which were a hard composition. Quart in 600-1000 miles is not uncommon. Even if the blue startup smoke is not there, driving using a lot of compression (downshifting to slow down) sucks oil down the guides, but not enough to boil out the back on tight engines. I gather that a lot of bimmer drivers use their engines (improperly) as brakes instead of wearing out much cheaper brake pads. Shifting down should be used to prepare for accelerating, not for slowing the car down. NOW... I am not saying you are doing that, but if you are using that kind of oil on a new top end,,,, I'd bet you downshift a lot to prepare for stops. Suggest (if that's the case), use the brakes.
