it definately hasnt jumped a tooth, the car is running SPOT ON!!! apart from the rattle, the car is running absolutely perfect, the 20ish degree celcius days that we are having ATM seem to suit the car down to the ground (probably cos i tuned it at this temp) and the car is a real charmer to drive.
so it hasnt slipped. do they usually slip before the fail altogether??? im not really confident in doing the procedure you mentioned myself but i will TRY to get some help to do it tomorow if the missus will let me out of the house :(

what do i look for when i get the timing cover off? do i need to remove the radiator for this or can i do it all in-situ??do i need to drain the oil??

to be honest im scared sh1tless of the chain breaking or even slipping. after spending 3months rebuilding hte engine in dads lotus the timing belt slipped whilst travelling downhill on closed throttle and bent all 8inlet valves!!! another 3months off the road not to mention the valves were (from memory) $330 EACH!!! all this because the head had been milled to the point that it is now about 2mm shorter than stock and the belt cant be tightened enough!!!ah the things we do for power.....

thanks for the support matt
