Hi, I am new to this board and although I have never owned a BMW, I have coveted the older ones for quite some time. I even subscribe to the Roundel. I have been looking for just the right 2002 for quite some time, but have been having difficulty finding one that is reasonably priced and not a rust bucket. However, I saw a 1978 530i the other day. Good looking car despite the red Earl Schieb paintjob which is already showing signs of peeling and bubbling. 178,000 miles, original owner. He wants $2,500, but will probably deal. Is this price in the ballpark? I am currently driving an older 8-valve SAAB 900 Turbo. Any thoughts on how performance and maintenance costs will compare between the two. Will probably keep the SAAB as a winter car. Thanks!
