V-12 fantasy aka heavy front end

Dear 5'ers,

I ran across this while surfing, an article with weights of various engines.

I'm bummed at the weight listed for our beloved sixes. 500 lbs! Is that why the heads were so flimsy, trying to save weight on top that they couldn't get out of the bottom end?

I've never hoisted a BMW six, but I have done a Mopar slant six, and it was a real boat anchor. It's listed here at 475 lbs.

Just some encouragement for you crazies with too much time and money on your hands. I'll bet the current BMW V-8 is only marginally heavier than the old six, if at all, and you could make up for most of the extra weight of the V-12 by changing to european bumpers.
