You can put the pistons back in with a Ring compressor tool..available quite cheap from auto stores.....it is a sleave you can compress the ring with and reinsert the piston, then remove.

As for rings...i think Mahle(the German manafacture) is the best bet...go to an Engine rebuilders, they may have Aftermarket or similar for less.

As for honing, yes you can do it your self...
Honing stones on a Spindle type thing that you put on a drill and hone with..you have to use lubricant..machine oil or similar.
And there is the botle brush type..which is easir..but not as good.

My suggestion is take the block to the Engine rebuilders, get the to clean it (chemical bath tub ) (sometimes the water jackets get heavy depeosits in it) and hone it, then get it baak and finish the rebuild yoru self.

As for the pistons and connecting Rods they should be A1..tough BMW stuff.

And i would suggest new Small end bearings too..big end is up to you..i would probly do that too.
