from the rain. Now, listen carefully to the door when you push on the switch. If the motor wants to operate, you will hear a muffled click. More than likely, the motor is weak and stuck up with the old waxxy grease. It should be cleaned. To do this, you're going to have to go in the door and remove the motor. There are 5 or 6 10mm nuts that hold the window bracket and motor assembly to the door shell after you take off the panel. Then, either remove the glass from the clips on the window channel, or lower the window with a helping downward pressure, or take off the black motor cover (unhook the wires first and "remember" where they go) and turn the armature by hand to lower the window. This will turn the large gear and the window should come down (this takes a while). These are the alternatives,,, you can make one of them work. Once the window bracket assembly is removed from the door (quite a trick !) you can open the motor up by unscrewing the three phillips head screws and removing the cover to the gears. Watch the pieces -- they will fall out) Clean the gears with carb cleaner or brake cleaner getting all of the old yellowish brown caked grease out of there. Then hook your wires back up and try the motor while holding it in mid-air (watch your fingers). If the motor works, regrease using a spray can of white lithium grease. Replace cover, , , reinstall window assembly. Reglue window to holding clips (if you took it out of the channel) with Marine Goop silicone adhesive,, , use the motor to get the window up and let skin/dry overnight before attempting to use the motor to get the window down. Have I left anything out?? Ah, yes! I don't remember if you have access to the gear plate with the 3 screws in it without taking the assembly out of the door. If you can get to it, the cleaning can be done in place. Be careful when using the strong solvents to clean the gears as they will remove paint , , , , and we don't want a real mess from this time consuming job. Good luck. Let us know how you make out.
