Is your fuel pressure reg vacuum compensated?
Having said this, mine does it too. I think vacuum advance may be contributing to the instability.
Actually mine did it; I've been running megasquirt for 2 days now and it runs great. Very strong with no wierdness. I didn't change timing at all.
