It would be good to have a test light. Make sure the test light will light when connected from big red wire on alt to terminal where blue wire was attached.
If the blue wire is grounded to chassis or alt body (try it) and key is on, charge light should light; that tests the entire ciruit from under the dash through the bulb and to the alt.
